時の鐘

蔵造りの町並みの中にある鐘撞堂で、川越のシンボル的な存在だ。 木造の三層構造で、櫓の高さは約16m。 1630年頃の創建以来3回も焼失しているが、その都度再建されている。 現在のものは1893年の大火災の翌年に再建された4代目だ。 今でも1日に1日4回(6時、12時、15時、18時)、趣深い音色で鐘が鳴っている。

吉島家住宅

かつて両替商と造り酒屋として栄えた豪商・吉島家の住宅で、日本を代表する町家建築物だ。 ※オリジナルの建物は1875年の大火で焼失し、すぐ再建されたものの、翌年に再び消失した。 1907年になってようやく現存のものが建てられた。 見どころは、玄関を入ったところにある土間の大きな吹き抜け空間。 大黒柱を中心として、梁と束柱で組まれた空間は幾何学的な美しさを持っている。 その他、漆塗が施された柱や梁など、繊細で優美な意匠にも注目してくれ。   日下部民藝館の北隣にある。

旧加賀藩士高田家跡

江戸時代に加賀藩に仕えた中級武士、高田家の屋敷跡で、当時の武士の生活を垣間見ることが出来る施設だ。 中級武士以上が設置することができた長屋門や奉公人が暮らした仲間部屋、馬屋などがあるが、屋敷自体は残っていないのが残念。 池泉回遊式庭園は綺麗でなかなか良い感じだ。 なお、高田家の禄高は550石で、現在価値に直すと約1,100万円。 加賀藩という大組織の中では課長くらいのランクだったと思われる。 入場料金は無料、金沢市は太っ腹だ！

旧神戸居留地十五番館

1880年に竣工されたこのエリア最古の建築物で、元々は米国領事館だった。 内部にはおしゃれなカフェもある。

Surrounded by steep mountains and the Shogawa River, it is a small village measuring approximately 230 meters from north to south and 240 meters from east to west, with nine gassho-zukuri houses remaining. サムライ映画の大掛かりなセットのように見えてしまう高山陣屋は、江戸幕府(1603〜1868年)の代官所の遺構で、敷地面積は約10,000㎡。   かつて郡代所・代官所は日本全国で六十数か所あったが、その中で高山陣屋のみ主要な建物が現存している。 江戸時代の建築技術、文化、生活様式、役所業務などを知ることができる貴重な史跡として高く評価されており、「ミシュラン・グリーンガイド・ジャポン」でも上から二番目の「二つ星」に位置付けられている。

金沢市足軽資料館

下級武士である足軽の生活ぶりを伝える文化施設だ。 1997年、金沢市内にあった清水家と高西家の足軽屋敷合計2棟を現在の場所に移築して開設された。 入り口から見て、手前の右側にあるのが清水家で、奥の左側にあるのが高西家。 ※何と！　高西家の屋敷は1994年まで、清水家の屋敷は1990年まで、住居として何百年もの間使用されていた！ 木造平屋建てで、板葺き屋根に石を乗せた典型的な足軽の家の内部には、足軽の職務についてや日常生活についての展示品や解説文章がある。 こちらも入場料金は無料、金沢市は太っ腹だ！
