Get up close and personal with this sightseeing cruise from Abashiri Port. The cruise lasts for about 1 hour and runs from the end of January to the beginning of April.
All 491 tons of the ship break the ice blocks apart as it marvelously moves forward, and because of its large size there is little rocking felt on the boat.
Though terribly cold, tourists can fully enjoy a dynamic view of the ship and its surroundings from the observation deck.
You can also partake in the viewing of drift ice from the warm (heated) comforts of the cabins on the 1st and 2nd floors.
During the peak drift ice season (the first half of February to the middle of February), the afternoon cruises are often fully booked, so booking early is highly recommended.
The ferry terminals are easily accessible, located near Abashiri Station.
