日下部民藝館

かつて高山で有数の豪商だった日下部家が1879年に建てた豪邸で、高山の町屋建築の“集大成的な存在”。長さ約13m の梁などを使って組み上げた吹き抜けなど、力強く豪壮な構造が特徴的だ。奥の土蔵が展示室になっており、5,000点ある美術品や民芸品などの収集品が順次公開されている。その他、江戸時代(1603〜1868年)・後期と明治時代(1868年〜1912年)の生活用具なども展示されている。 1階中央部にある休憩所では、お茶と煎餅をいただける(※無料)。吉島家住宅の南隣にある。

飛騨こって牛

A5ランク(最上級)の飛騨牛を使った握り寿司の専門店。観光客で賑わう上三之町にあり、いつも行列が出来ている大人気店だ。ほとんどの客が注文する人気メニューが、味わいの違う飛騨牛握り寿司を一貫ずつ楽しめる「三種盛り/1,000円」。この店にはイートインスペースがないので、横にある「咲くやこの花」店内か、店の前か、歩きながら食べることになる。なお、寿司は皿の代わりに食べられる煎餅の上に載って出てくる。

吉島家住宅

かつて両替商と造り酒屋として栄えた豪商・吉島家の住宅で、日本を代表する町家建築物だ。 ※オリジナルの建物は1875年の大火で焼失し、すぐ再建されたものの、翌年に再び消失した。 1907年になってようやく現存のものが建てられた。見どころは、玄関を入ったところにある土間の大きな吹き抜け空間。大黒柱を中心として、梁と束柱で組まれた空間は幾何学的な美しさを持っている。その他、漆塗が施された柱や梁など、繊細で優美な意匠にも注目してくれ。日下部民藝館の北隣にある。

ブッチャーズ

肉料理専門のワインバルで、飛騨牛を中心に様々な肉をリーズナブルな値段で楽しむことが出来る。一番人気は、備長炭を使って焼き上げた飛騨牛のステーキだ。味付けは塩と胡椒で、煮詰めたバルサミコ酢もソース代わりに添えられている。飛騨牛と飛騨豚をそれぞれの特徴を生かす比率で混ぜ合わせて作るハンバーグ、「飛騨ブルグハンバーグステーキ」も人気のメニュー。ランチタイムだと、これにサラダ・スープ・パンorライスが付いて1,380円と非常にリーズナブルだ。
