まさごそば

1938年創業の、“高山ラーメン発祥の店”で、現在の店主で三代目。メニューは、中華そばのみ。鶏ガラ、数種類の魚介の節、野菜から取った出汁に濃口醤油を加え、寸胴鍋で8時間煮込んだコクのあるスープが、自家製の細ちぢれ麺によい感じで絡む。トッピングは、叉焼、めんま、大きめでシャキシャキとした食感の葱のみ。特に葱には拘りがあり、自家栽培の飛騨葱を使っている。(※冬季のみ)

1927年創業の老舗精肉店が運営する、カウンターのみのカレー専門店。メニューは飛騨牛ビーフカレーのみだ。精肉店の仕入れ力を活かし、A5ランクの飛騨牛を130gも使ったビーフカレーを1,600円という極めてリーズナブルな価格で提供している。数十種類ものスバイスが使われているカレーのルーはコクがある味わいだ。この店のレトルトカレー(648円/一人前)を土産物として買って帰ると家族や友人に喜ばれることだろう。

吉島家住宅

かつて両替商と造り酒屋として栄えた豪商・吉島家の住宅で、日本を代表する町家建築物だ。 ※オリジナルの建物は1875年の大火で焼失し、すぐ再建されたものの、翌年に再び消失した。 1907年になってようやく現存のものが建てられた。見どころは、玄関を入ったところにある土間の大きな吹き抜け空間。大黒柱を中心として、梁と束柱で組まれた空間は幾何学的な美しさを持っている。その他、漆塗が施された柱や梁など、繊細で優美な意匠にも注目してくれ。日下部民藝館の北隣にある。

いつも行列が出来ている人気店で、メニューは「中華そば」だけだ。まだ若い店主が作るのは、昔ながらの高山の中華そば。たっぷりの鶏ガラに野菜や魚介を加え、11時間以上じっくり煮込んで作る醤油味のスープと特注の細ちぢれ麺がよくマッチしている。具材は、自家製の分厚い叉焼、葱、めんま。仕上げに入れる黒胡椒の香りがアクセントとなっている。スタッフたちは気が利き、対応も良い。夜遅くまで開いていて便利。 (※夜の開店時間は21時と遅いが。)
