The Kuidaore Taro doll dressed in red and white striped clothes and large black and dark rimmed glasses holding a taiko drum is considered a very famous and popular figure in Kansai.
It was originally the mascot of a large restaurant chain Osaka Meibutsu Kuidaore which was established in 1949 and went on to achieve popularity.
The chain completely shut down in 2008, however, one year later a different business bought up the rights to the chain and has brought it back.

Photo Tips
The typical photo pose is to pretend to beat a taiko drum.
If taken from a slight diagonal angle you can get a photo with both you and Kuidaore Taro.
On weekends there can be a very long wait to get a photograph, so don’t take too long.
