A popular place among young people in Kansai and the birthplace of many trends, America Mura is a place where many Kansai youth and teens hang out.
Despite being beign only 300m by 500m in area, there are numerous import & second-hand stores, general stores, cafes, galleries, music instrument shops and more – a chaotic collection of over 2500 stores bursting with character and individuality.
As there are many young people, clothes and other items are all reasonably priced.
The area around Amerikamura was originally only used for storage and car parking, but in the 1970s shops that sold American casualwear and goods from the west coast and Hawaii became hugely popular, leading the area to be called “Americamura” (literally, “American village”).
Sankaku Park is a landmark at the center, frequented by people who relax with sweets, takoyaki and other takeout food.
