One of only four national museums in Japan. (The others are located in Tokyo, Nara, and Kyoto.)
Based on the concept of “understanding the formation of Japanese culture from an Asian historical perspective,” the museum introduces the history of cultural exchange with other Asian regions in five easy-to-understand themes.
The museum’s greatest feature is that visitors can not only “see” but also “touch” and “smell” to learn through all five senses.
A 50-minute “Backyard Tour” is also offered every Sunday from 2:00 p.m., allowing visitors to see “behind the scenes” of the museum. (Free of charge)
The Kyushu National Museum is connected to Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine by a moving walkway, a 7-minute walk away.
