Sarakurayama has long been famous for its excellent views.
From the base of the mountain, take the cable car and slope car to the summit, which is 622 meters above sea level, in about 10 minutes.
*The cable car and slope car run every 20 to 30 minutes.
At the top of the mountain, there is an observation deck with a restaurant attached; the view is amazing from here, particularly the night view is spectacular!
The lights of the city of Kitakyushu, the industrial area along the coast and the Kanmon Straits are overwhelmingly bright, large scale, and fantastic.
The city, has been called (without any evidence) “the night view of 10 billion dollars,” a bit of an hyperinflated name and likely the most “expensive night view” in the world.
However, Sarakurayama has been selected as one of the “New Three Great Night Views of Japan.”
*The other two nightscapes are Wakakusa Mountain in Nara Prefecture and Fuefukigawa Fruits Park in Yamanashi Prefecture.
Although, the two nightscapes were recognized by a private organization of nightscape enthusiasts.
Sarakurayama is also a popular date spot and has been selected as a “holy place for lovers”. Again, a private organization has recognized it as such.
There is a “dome in the sky” about 50 meters on foot from the observatory station, and inside the dome is a heart-shaped monument that supposedly has a “miracle” meaning.
Sarakurayama also has a trail with a good view, and hikers can easily enjoy climbing and hiking.
