As the largest seafood market in Hokkaido, vegetables, fruits, sweets and dried seafood are also sold in the 250 store market. In other words, it’s the “wonderland of food” that has every imaginable Hokkaido food.
Its liveliness is contagious and fun to walk around.
Sure you can try a bite from various stores selling squid with rice inside, fried corn, melons, steamed bun with crab meat, etc. For the best experience, however, head over to “Donburi Yokocho” – (street of rice bowls) found at the center of the market.
There, you’ll find a street full of restaurants, where you must order the seafood rice bowl and squid sashimi dish.
You can also fish for your squid at the squid fish pond. Catch a squid and the restaurant will prepare it for you!
Many of the shops close before noon, so go early in the morning.
