About Susukino

Susukino is an entertainment district in the center of Sapporo City.

In just about a square area measuring approximately 600 m east to west and 600 m north to south, centered on the Susukino Municipal Subway Station, there are 3,500 restaurants, 500 clubs where women offer their services, and 300 adult entertainment establishments, which are busy until late at night.

It is the largest of such districts in northern Japan, including the Tohoku region, and together with Kabukicho in Shinjuku, Tokyo, and Nakasu in Fukuoka, it is considered one of the “three major entertainment areas in Japan.

Susukino is also for its safety; women can feel at ease  drinking alone late into the night.

Susukino was formed in the 1870s, when Hokkaido was first settled, and from the beginning, it was an entertainment nightlife district — mainly for eating, drinking, and adult entertianment.

It continued to prosper along with the rapid development of Sapporo, and has continued to do so to the present day.

Eat

While there are all kinds of restaurants, cafes, and sweets stores in Susukino, but here we will focus on street food that reps Hokkaido: ramen.

Sapporo is one of Japan’s “ramen battlegrounds,” and there are approximately 110 ramen stores in Susukino.
