Iwakuni Castle is located on the summit of a mountain 200m above sea level.

From the rooftop observation platform on the top floor, you can see Kintaikyo, the entire Iwakuni

City, as well as the various islands located in Seto Inland Sea, and the view is excellent.

There is a ropeway from ground floor to the top floor that takes about 3 minutes.

Originally, Iwakuni-jyo was a chalk castle, constructed by Kikkawa Hiroie — the first Iwakuni feudal clan lord – in 1608.

In 1615, due to the orders of the shogunate, the castle was destroyed 7 years after it was constructed.

The current castle tower, was constructed in 1962.

Exhibited in the castle tower are swords, and paintings and calligraphic works called shoga.
